Anyone Got Some Good Advice On Sowing Seeds...?

Bought some packets of seeds today and would like to have the chance of growing my own flowers and vegetables from seed. Anyone got some good advice and tips for growing from seed for a novice? Many thanks.

Anyone Got Some Good Advice On Sowing Seeds...?
I know absolutely nothing about growing dahlias from seed but I have a feeling it might be a challenge. The tomatoes will need to be started indoors under lights. I don't know where you are so I can't give you any information about dates. You might have a better experience with nursery grown tomato plants but if you really want to do seed it's worth a try. I garden in zone 4 and my experience with cosmos is that it is a perfect flower to plant from seed. you just sow after the danger of frost has passed and when the soil has warmed just a little bit. Keep the seeds moist ( I recommend sprinkling every day, though you can get by with a few lapses ) but don't overwater. Soon you will have tiny seedlings that will, in a couple of months, be huge beautiful blooming plants. Cosmos are the joy of gardening personified. They will self sow also especially the Sonata mix. I planted a 10 cent seed packet one year and didn't have to plant seeds again for ten years. Zinnias are similarly rewarding, as are nasturtiums though in my climate they are unlikely to reseed. Beans and lettuce are other vegetables that are very easy to grow from seed. Whatever you like is worth trying from seed because you don't have to break the bank on your gamble. Have fun !
Reply:It can be tricky, different seeds are sown different ways. You also want to get the Old Farmer's almanac, that will tell you when to plant different types of vegetables and such. This website is very useful for beginners.

Reply:Not knowing what you have I would say read the back of the pkg. Then look them up on the net.
Reply:Here's an old faq I wrote many years ago:

Reply:It all depends on what your growing ,Corn for example 3in deep in. apart I don't know what your trying to grow
