What is the best way to water flowers without hurting them?

Every time I try to water my flowers or seeds it always seems like the soil gets smashed down and the seeds get buried and screwed up and my plants tip to one side. i've tried my moms old watering can, the hose, pouring the water from a cup...

It sounds like there is too much pressure from the nozzle. You should pick up a watering head for your hose that is specifically for watering plants. The multi-purpose ones are sometimes not gentle enough, and other methods can take to long. The nozzles with long necks are generally best. They mist gentle enough to water seeds and not break off flower heads.
Reply:Soaker hose. Buy at any home supply. Manufactured with tiny holes - just lay down around plantings. Also a wand sprayer which difuses the water. Don't despair.
Reply:the very best way is to drip water on the ground near the stem. This takes a lot os patience.



Just let a small flow of water from the hose go around the stem of the flower for a short while.
Reply:yes,for most plants,set the hose to mist and put the water just above the roots(it wont displace the soil,just since mist is the gentlest setting,it might not get water through the leaves if you water it from the top)
Reply:Yeah, set the hose on mist or some other gentle setting. It's a big thing gardeners do now, but, take any size plastic pop bottle fill with water and poke a small hole in the bottom, set it between your plants. Plants that fall over need staked.
Reply:if plants are in pots set them in tray/bucket of water and they'll soak up from bottom.seeds usually need to be covered with a little soil anyways.fine mist always works for me.

Reply:Might want to try a dripper hose. Very gentle and gets the water were it needs to be, to the roots!

Reply:Try the hose set on mist, but that will take a long time to realy get the ground wet. You can get a soaker hose or a drip irrigation system in the gardening section of Walmart or Home Depot or Lowes or most any place that sells yard or garden supplies. Or just use your hose without the sprayer and have the water flow set at a very, very low flow and just move the hose every few minutes.
