Can i still start planting carnation seeds now?
Seeds of any flower takes several weeks to bloom. Can you go to a nursery or garden center and pick up a plant that is already blooming?

It is now Fall and soon it will be winter. It's too late to start seeds outdoors. But you can start them in containers. Set the containers in a south facing winder for warmth and sunshine. OR buy grow lights which you will need to leave on for about 16 hours per day.
Reply:It truly depends on where you live. If you live in zones 9 or 10, then I'd say go for it. Anywhere else, and the freezes, light as they may be are going to kill your little plants.

Besides, it takes up to five months to bloom from seed. It is suggested that you plant the seed indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost date, and then set out after all danger of frost has passed. As the days grow longer the plants grow stronger, until finally they begin to bloom.

An alternative would be dianthus, hellebore or sedum. If you can get these established before the cold really sets in, you're in for a treat in your winter garden.

Happy Gardening!
