Should they be looking like this?

i'm trying apple seeds in foam cups. i watered the dirt after putting them in last week. then again maybe a day or two later. the dirt has never looked dry. in fact i'm afraid to water again because i don't want to over water my seeds. the cups have been in the sun when it comes through the window. is the dirt supposed to stay moist in foam cups? if my mom can sprout flower seeds. what are the chances for my apple seeds? it's Michigan if anyone will ask.

Should they be looking like this?
Make sure your cups have little holes in the base so that extra moisture can soak away. Then you don't need to worry too much about over-watering. The soil should be permanently moist and kept in a warm place. It often speeds germination to cover the container with plastic film, which you take off as soon as the sprouts appear. It may take weeks or even months before the seeds germinate.
Reply:Apple seeds are relatively easy to grow. Just gently feel the soil, if it is moist, leave it alone. Otherwise just spray the soil with water. Once the seeds sprout, take care not to let the sun scorch the fragile leaves. Make sure you dont water directly onto the leaves in the sun, it will burn them. Wait until the seedlings have their second or third sets of leaves on before pricking out and planting into a more substancial pot. Then always water from the bottom of the pot.
Reply:My apple started sprouting it's seed so what i did was take a container with a lid, lined it with paper towel, put a bit of water in the bottom and put the seeds between the sides and the paper. About 8 have sprouted leaves so i need to get them into dirt. Unless you know for sure that the seeds are going to grow something etc just leave them in the dirt. To see if they need more water, just sink your finger about up the the first knuck into the dirt. If it is dry, add a bit more water, if it is still wet. Leave it alone. If you are not sure, try the container-paper towel idea. When they sprout, put them into dirt. Just keep the conatiner in a place where it will be light and some warmth. Mine is above the fridge.

The thing to realize though is if you planted say a mcintosh apple seed, you will be getting a part mcintosh apple and part who knows what. Apples need two different apple trees to produce fruit. but hey you could devople a compleatly new apple tree. Have fun and experiment. I can't wait to plant my seedlings soon. (Mine are Granny Smith apple seeds)
