:) What in your opinion is the best flower to have?

What kind of flower to be planted in Southern California that smells well do you think is best? Maybe something classical like a rose (what kind) or a different one. I just hope to plant one. Please mean by seed, not plant.

:) What in your opinion is the best flower to have?
Well, Plumerias are wonderful if you want something that smells good. And they are so easy to grow. The only thing is when it gets cold, the plant loses all it's leaves, so it looks like a big stick. But when it starts to warm up again, the leaves come back and the blooms are fragrant. They use these flowers to make the leis in Hawaii
Reply:The lotus flower exposes the sensual nature of all women; it mirrors their inner and outer beauty.
Reply:I don't think you start roses from seed. Check with a local garden center and see what is available and ask questions as to what will grow best in your area.
Reply:Daisy
Reply:Lotus flower, Not many in the Eastern US not sure about your area.

Reply:lavender, gardinia, lilac, honey locus, all verry aromatic.
Reply:I would choose a perennial plant/flower that you like really well. They always come back if you take care of them and stay beautiful for years. Plus you do not have to replant--and that is the best part of all!!

You really should check out the ones that bloom all season.

The All American Rose called Tahitian Sunset has a strong anise scent. It's a peachy-apricot color.

Of the top 10 fragrant roses I like:

Double Delight which has a pale pink center with ruby edges. Honey Perfume is apricot yellow

Memorial Day- "1 bloom is said to fill almost an entire room" is clear pink with lavender glow

Midas Touch --Golden yellow
Reply:Lavender.....Cooking and aroma therapy,it is very versatile.Once established will be drought tolerant.
Reply:sweet peas (flowers) you can plant them by seeds, and they are very sweet in scent.
Reply:Sages do not require a lot of water, have different colored flowers, and are also fragrant. Look into Baja Blanco Cedros Island Sage, Black Sage, or Creeping Sage. What about flowers that attract hummingbirds? California Fuchsias, Royal Beard Tongues, and Bladder Pods do not require huge amounts of water and attract hummingbirds. How about plants that attract butterflies? Try Baja Fairy Dusters, Golden Yarrow, or Hearst California Lilacs and save on water. Don't forget California Poppies. Add some White California Poppies for a nice annual bed.
