A third option might be your best choice...BULBS. They are perennials and give you beautiful hardy flowers every year.

As for seeds vs. flowers, there are a lot of variables; the type of flower, the time of year, your region, your commitment, etc. Generally speaking if it is not a bush flower seeds are best.
Reply:neither is better. each has it's advantages and disadvantages.

for example:

Plant - it may only be available as a plant

may not come back true to form from seed

starts off larger ( duh!)

will bloom quicker

more immediate effect

the particular plant may need such a long germination period that is is not worth it for you.

Seeds - a bigger and different variety of choice

much much less expensive

some seeds germinate quickly and grow fast

some flowers do not like their roots to be disturbed so do better if sown where you want them to grow.

so i usually land up with a combination of both.
Reply:the actual plant will flower faster - how much patience do u have ??

baz
Reply:I don't have patience..so I buy the actual plants. You can see them all right away. I've planted seeds before and I didn't get anything growing...except for sunflowers
Reply:depends on how quick you want to see results.

if you want a quickly done, fast moving/growing garden plant starters or plants

if you want something that will take a while to see the results start from seed

i put down seed this year in my flower beds bcse i didn't have the money to plant the whole thing with starters, and i'm renting so i didn't want to put in the investment for something i won't enjoy long term

last year i planted plants and they were beautiful and sooo long lasting.

i did start my veggies from seeds this year. they are doing super well and will be ready for the ground in a month or so
