My butterfly flower this year did not turn orange as it did last year (which was the first for planting).?

The flowers this year were kind of ivory in color, and not near as many despite the plant being bigger and fuller than last which was the transplant year. Also, I have seed pods - how and when do I plant the seeds?

Did you trim your butterfly bush this spring? If you didn't, that could be the flowering problem. Your butterfly is using energy to keep old wood growing. Check to see if your bush is a hybrid or not. If it isn't, then plant the seeds in the spring in a container and see if they sprout. Keep them inside for the first year, well hydrated and humidified with lots of sunlight, but not direct sunlight. After the year, you should have a plant big enough to plant outside in the spring.

As for the color being different, it could be a difference in nutrients or fertilizer that the plant is lacking. I'm not really sure about that one.
