I have a sunflower plant, and would like to plant the seeds from the flowers. How do I prepare the seeds?

All you have to do is collect the seeds from the head and then plant them in the ground...its helpful to plant alot of them in case they are bad

you will know when they are ripe as the birds will soon eat all your seeds. if you catch the head in time hang it so as the mice dont eat all your seeds once dry use your finger to rub them out of the flower head they should be dry put them in a cantanier till next spring then plant them and enjoy...
Reply:pick the seed plate off and remove all seeds thereon, just that easy
Reply:What motox said.
Reply:No prep is required. Just gather the seeds when they are ripe and plant. If the sunflower you have is a hybrid the seeds may not repoduce exactly what you have now.
Reply:Once the plant reaches maturity cut it off the stem about six inches from the under side. hang it some were to let it dry out a nd in a few weeks you can run your hands over it and knock the seeds off don't leave it out side the birds won't leave you any! I put ours up with a paper bag under them to catch the ones that fall off. Good luck God bless.
