I live in the country and love to throw sun flower seeds and thistle on the ground near my house to feed the birds. The DEM came to my door today and told me to stop. Only elevated bird/squirrel feeders within 100 feet of my house is allowed. They say deer may come and eat the seed and feeding wild deer is against the law. What can I do? HELP!
Can you believe there is a law in Rhode Island PROHIBITING you from feeding the birds in your own back yard?
Yes there is. You cannot feed deer so seed going on the ground may be eaten by deer so it is prohibited.
Reply:And here you thought the Patriot act was a danger to your rights. The EPA and environmental laws invade our personal freedoms on a daily basis ... The liberals have done a great job in misdirection ... warning you of republicans .. while stealing your rights
Reply:As the previous poster stated, you can decide whether or not you wish to follow the law, or you can work to change it.
Just because you do something within the confines of your property doesn't mean it's always legal. You can't after all, legally smoke pot or murder someone on your property.
Reply:Probably because a%26amp;%holes feed them, then the birds come to their yards looking for food too. Honestly, who wants birdsh#@ all over the patio furniture.
Reply:Build a fence.
